I dont think John Lennon wrote this song in accordance to a certain situation. He wrote it about the world in general, and honestly, I do agree that it is a bit "cynical" but I think that is the essence and beauty of the song. It makes us as a human race think about how much we are and ARENT. This song is timeless. I mean who can honestly say that they don't like it?! It is truly a work of art, and will never fade away. The words have meaning beyond anything I've ever heard before, and obviously the world heard something different in them too, thats why this song has never seemed to disappear...
